Holvi Oval — Bi-Tone Travertine Double Arch Dining Table

The Holvi Oval is built on a material conversation between two stones from the same geological family. The plateau — wide, elongated, its ends rounded into a full semicircle — is cut from cream travertine: pale ivory with warm amber inclusions, the characteristic voids of the stone left open to read as texture rather than filled to read as flaw. Beneath it, two portiques in a deeper blush-rose travertine rise from the floor in the form of an inverted U, their inner passage open, their outer profile rounded to a full cylinder section. The blush of the portiques against the ivory of the plateau is not a contrast so much as a gradation — two expressions of the same mineral language, separated by geology and temperature, reunited in this table.

Each portique is a complete arch: two vertical columns rise from rectangular feet, curve at the top into a continuous arc, and press against the underside of the plateau through a concealed mechanical connection that leaves no trace on the surface above. The arch form is ancient — it appears in Roman aqueducts, in Romanesque windows, in the doorways of Nordic timber buildings — but here it is stripped of all ornament and returned to pure geometry. Seen from the end of the table, the two portiques read as a pair of arched openings, the floor visible through them, the space beneath the table entirely unoccupied.

The travertine tones — cream and blush — bring a residential heat that marble cannot provide, and the arch form carries a lightness that most stone tables resist.
