Kerros Rect — Banded Onyx Plinth & Travertine Rectangular Dining Table
The Kerros Rect is a table built entirely on the principle of geological time made visible. The plateau is a wide rectangle of honed travertine — cream-ivory, warm, its open pores and subtle texture reading as something between stone and sand. The base is a solid rectangular plinth of banded onyx: the same mineral family, a different geological process, and an entirely different visual outcome. Where the travertine is uniform and soft, the onyx is stratified — horizontal bands of cream, honey, amber and pale gold stacked in tight parallel layers, the sedimentary record of a mineral spring that deposited its calcite over thousands of years, layer by layer, each one a different moment in geological time.
The plinth is a pure rectangular block — no taper, no relief, no curve. Its proportions are those of an architectural element rather than a furniture element: wide, low, and resolved. It extends to within a few centimetres of the plateau's edge on the short sides, creating a strong visual continuity between base and surface. From a distance the table reads as a single horizontal plane — as if the plateau were simply resting on a band of earth. Only when you approach does the stratification of the onyx reveal itself in full: the individual layers, the slight variations in translucency, the way the amber bands glow differently under different light conditions.
The bichrome approach — travertine plateau, onyx plinth — is the Kerros's essential proposition. Both stones share the same warm, cream-amber palette, but they express that palette in completely different vocabularies: one matte, uniform and tactile; the other banded, dramatic and geological. Together they create a table that is simultaneously calm and visually inexhaustible. Suited for 6 to 10 guests depending on size.

Materials & Construction
Plateau: Honed travertine — cream-ivory, matte finish, open-pore texture
Plinth base: Banded onyx (honey/cream/amber striated) — same warm palette, stratified surface
Plinth finish: Honed — matte, enhances the depth of the banding without gloss
Plateau edge: Square-cut, honed — precise, architectural, no ornamentation
Plinth form: Pure rectangular block — no taper, no curve, no relief
Onyx banding orientation: Horizontal — strata run parallel to floor, maximising visual impact
Connection: Concealed threaded rod — zero visible hardware
- Dimensions : 183 × 97 × 76 cm
The Kerros Rect draws from the Italian postmodern tradition of the 1970–80s — the moment when architects and designers began treating stone not as a building material but as a primary design vocabulary, and when the plinth form became a statement of architectural conviction rather than a structural necessity.
