Kukinto Oval — Solid Oak Organic Lobed Pedestal Dining Table
The Kukinto Oval is the softest piece in the Maison Ilmarinen collection. Where the other tables make arguments — about structure, material, history, drama — the Kukinto makes an invitation. Its plateau is a wide, generous oval in the "racetrack" format: straight long sides, fully rounded short ends, its edge described in a continuous curve that never sharpens and never stops. The grain of the natural oak runs the full length of the table uninterrupted, warm honey in colour, fine and consistent in texture, finished in a matte hardwax oil that lets the wood remain wood rather than becoming a surface.
Beneath the plateau, the base is a single organic volume — not a column, not a cone, not a cylinder, but something closer to what a trunk becomes where it meets the ground: swelling outward in four soft lobes before settling into the floor. The lobes are not ornamental additions to a geometric form — they are the form itself, the natural consequence of resolving a wide-diameter base into a narrower waist while maintaining structural mass at the contact points. Each lobe presses gently against the floor. Together they create a footprint that is stable, generous, and entirely without the visual anxiety of a narrow pedestal. The base has the quality of something that has grown rather than something that has been made.
The monomatière decision is as complete as in any piece in the collection. Plateau and base are the same natural oak, the same oil finish, the same grain temperature. Viewed from close, the grain of the plateau runs horizontally while the grain of the base runs vertically — the same wood, the same tree, speaking in two different registers simultaneously.
Suited for 6 to 10 guests. The most approachable and universally compatible piece in the stone-and-wood range of the collection.

The Kukinto Oval is the table in the collection most aligned with the biophilic design movement — the interior design current that draws forms, textures and materials from the natural world rather than from the history of design. The lobed base is not a quotation of any historical pedestal form; it is a solution derived from studying how trees grow at their base, how roots swell before they enter the ground.
