Harja Rect — Solid Walnut Extendable Dining Table
There is a particular kind of intelligence in furniture that looks effortless. The Harja Rect is that intelligence, applied to the most-used object in a dining room. A wide rectangular plateau of solid walnut — warm honey in morning light, amber-brown at dusk — sits on four angled slab legs that lean outward at a precise ten-degree inclination. The legs are not tapered rods. They are full-thickness lames of walnut, their inner face cut away at an angle to create a triangular section that is at once more structural and more refined than a conventional leg could be. Where they meet the underside of the plateau, they do so through a continuous apron that is itself part of the structural logic — visible from the seat, honest about its purpose, beautiful in its proportions.
The plateau surface reads as two boards because it is two boards, glue-joined at the centre with a tight, barely-visible seam that runs the full length of the table. This is not a design conceit — it is the consequence of using timber at full width, with the grain running continuously from one end to the other. The join is the evidence of craft: of a maker who chose wide, real boards over veneered sheet goods, and who made the honest decision to show the join rather than hide it.
In its extendable version, the same central join accommodates a butterfly leaf mechanism that opens to reveal a matched panel in the same walnut — grain-matched to the plateau, invisible when closed, generous when open. The extension adds 40 to 50 centimetres and moves the table from a composed six-seat piece to a relaxed eight to ten.
This is the table the collection needed: the one you use every day. Not a statement made once and admired, but a presence that improves with age, with use, with the slow darkening that walnut undergoes over years of honest service.

The Harja draws from the mid-century Scandinavian cabinetmaking tradition — specifically the post-war Danish and Norwegian workshops that prioritised structural honesty, solid timber construction, and a quiet confidence in wood as the primary design element. The angled slab leg is a direct evolution of the splayed plywood and solid-wood legs produced by Scandinavian workshops in the 1950s and 60s.
