Palo Round — Patinated Metal & Solid Teak Dining Table

Sale price$8,000.00

The Palo Round is the most alchemical piece in the Maison Ilmarinen collection. Its plateau is not painted, not lacquered, not coated. It is a disc of hand-oxidised metal — steel or bronze alloy — worked with acids and heat until its surface achieves the mottled, mineral depth of old patina: silver-grey in the ambient light of morning, shifting towards warm bronze and moss green as the day moves. No two plateaux age identically. This surface is not a finish; it is a process, still ongoing.

At the centre of that metal disc, cut with absolute precision, a vesica-shaped inlay of natural warm-toned wood — teak or walnut — creates the table's one moment of softness. The inlay is flush to the thousandth of a millimetre, its grain running east-west across the round form. It reads as an eye from across the room, as a landscape cross-
section up close. It is both motif and material contrast, and it is the visual anchor that prevents the metal surface from reading as industrial.

The base is a double-cylinder pedestal in solid teak: two full-height cylinders slotted together at a single vertical joint, their grain running continuously from floor to underside of top. The form is monolithic — there are no legs, no stretchers, no visible hardware. The table appears to grow from the floor rather than stand on it. Its proportions are deliberately massive; the thickness of the cylinders relative to the diameter of the top is a considered choice that communicates permanence rather than lightness.

Suited for 6 to 10 guests depending on diameter. The patinated surface deepens over time

The Palo Round is the most materially ambitious piece in the collection. IThe living patina positions it alongside the Japanese *wabi-sabi* tradition of objects that improve with age and use
