The Span Dining Armchair — Ebonized Oak Open Frame with Cognac Upholstered Seat & Back
There is a particular kind of confidence in furniture that removes rather than adds. The Span is built on exactly that logic. Its ebonized oak frame — blackened to reveal the grain rather than conceal it — forms a sweeping open arc that holds the seat and back as if in suspension. Nothing fills the space between the arms and the backrest. That negative space is the design.
The upholstery is a deliberate counterpoint: warm cognac fabric, densely woven with a tactile, saddle-like texture, wraps both the floating backrest panel and the generously cushioned seat. Against the deep, near-matte black of the ebonized oak, the cognac reads as a quiet provocation — a warmth that the frame refuses, and the cushioning insists on. The result is a chair that reads as both graphic and inviting, rigorous and comfortable.
The legs are a study in restraint: four gently tapered ebonized posts that widen subtly at the joint, giving the structure visual weight at its base without heaviness. The open armrests describe a clean arc from back post to front leg, framing the seated figure without enclosing them. At a dining table, the Span disappears into the architecture of the room. Around a table of four or six, it becomes the room's defining rhythm.
The Span pairs naturally with dark stone or blackened steel dining tables, smoked glass surfaces, or raw concrete — and creates a compelling tension against light bleached oak or warm marble. It works equally well as a standalone accent chair in a study or a reading corner, where the open frame reads as pure form.
