Risti Round — Emperador Dark Marble & Sculpted Oak Cross-Pedestal Dining Table DOUBLON AVEC PYLVAS (garder PYLVAS)

The Risti Round is the only piece in the Maison Ilmarinen collection that pairs a dark stone with a dark wood — and the result is a table of uncommon gravity. The plateau is a wide disc of Emperador Dark, the Spanish marble whose ground is a deep, saturated brown-chocolate and whose veining — cream, gold, and pale amber — moves across the surface in loose, generous arcs. It is one of the most dramatic marbles quarried in Europe, and at dining scale its effect is total: the table dominates the room not through size but through presence.

Beneath it, the base is four curved arms of solid smoked oak, each one a concave lama that sweeps inward from a square foot at floor level, narrows through a graceful S-curve, and converges at a central column that rises to meet the underside of the plateau. Seen from the front, each arm presents a concave face — hollow, shadowed, directional. Seen from above, the four arms form a cross, their feet at the cardinal points, their inner curves creating a lantern of negative space at the centre of the base. The base is a structural argument as much as a formal one: the concave curve of each arm concentrates the load toward the central column with maximum efficiency, which is why the arms can be as slender as they are.

The contrast between materials is the Risti's essential character. Emperador Dark and smoked oak share a chromatic register — both are deep brown, both carry warm undertones — but their surfaces are opposite: one polished and impervious, one open-grained and matte. One geological, one arboricultural. The table is a still life of two materials in conversation about the same colour from opposite ends of the material spectrum.
