Kajo Round — Lacquered & Solid Walnut Dining Table Doute de Claude dans catalogue
The Kajo Round is the most precise object in the Maison Ilmarinen collection. Where the Kaarna Oval speaks of restraint and the Oksa Oval of force, the Kajo speaks of resolution — the kind of clarity that only comes from a designer who has said no to everything that wasn't essential and yes to nothing that wasn't right.
The top is a perfect disc of matte white lacquered wood, its edge wrapped in a continuous ring of dark walnut that frames the surface like a lens. Four solid walnut legs — monolithic in proportion, rounded at the base, precisely vertical — connect to the underside of the top via brushed satin metal connectors that are visible, deliberate, and almost jewellery-like in their finish. The connector is the detail that separates this table from every mass-market interpretation of the same idea. It resolves the junction between wood and top without hiding it, transforming a structural necessity into a design signature.
The round format is a social decision as much as an aesthetic one. There is no foot of the table. Every seat is equal. Combined with the generously proportioned top and the wide leg spacing, the Kajo creates a dining experience that is simultaneously intimate and formal — right for the design-literate household that uses its dining room seven nights a week.

The Kajo sits closest to the vocabulary of contemporary Italian studios where the design language is resolved rather than expressive, and quality is communicated through precision of detail rather than drama of form. The exposed metal connector is a direct heir to the "honest construction" tradition in Scandinavian and Italian modern design. It will appeal to the buyer who knows the difference between a table that looks minimal and one that is minimal.
