Lehti Oval — Solid Oak Tulip Dining Table

There are tables that make a statement, and there are tables that make a room feel right. The Lehti Oval is the second kind. A single piece of thought — the tulip form translated from metal to solid oak, from industrial process to hand-turned wood — it achieves the rarest thing in contemporary furniture design: total formal resolution with zero visible effort.

The plateau is an extended oval of solid oak, its edge bevelled to near-thinness at the perimeter so that from the seat it appears to float. The column rises from a wide disc base in a single continuous curve — thicker at the root, narrowing at the waist, widening again where it meets the underside of the top. The profile is not copied from Saarinen's 1956 original, which was cast aluminium. It is redrawn from scratch in solid wood, which imposes different constraints and produces a different result: warmer, more organic, with visible grain running continuously from base disc through column through top.

The wood is left in its natural state, finished only with a food-safe oil that deepens the grain without altering the colour. The table will lighten slightly with sunlight and darken with use — it is a living object, not a fixed one. This is the point. In a collection that includes patinated metal and hand-oxidised surfaces, the Lehti is the quietest piece — and in a certain kind of interior, the most powerful.
