round-wood-dining-table-aukko
Aukko — Drum Pedestal Dining Table

A round table on a single architectural drum. The pedestal is a solid wood cylinder opened front and back by two tall arches with softly rounded corners, so that it reads at once as a mass and as a void: two curved walls joined by a ring at the floor, light passing through the base. Aukko — Finnish for opening — takes its name from that gesture.

The drum is built the way a cooper builds a cask: solid staves shaped and joined into a curve, then turned and hand-finished so the grain runs unbroken from floor to top. Above it, a round top in wide solid boards, its edge tapered on the underside to a slim line, is held flat by concealed wooden cross rails. A concealed steel ballast set within the base ring keeps the table planted, even when guests lean on its edge.

Offered for four at Ø 120 cm, six at Ø 150 cm and eight at Ø 180 cm, in three wood finishes. Fumed Oak, a deep natural chocolate brown obtained by fuming rather than staining, so the colour runs into the wood itself. Natural Oak, pale honey and even-grained. Walnut, warm brown with fine straight grain. Solid wood throughout — no veneer — finished in a matte hardwax oil.

For four and six, the top can also be cut from solid natural stone, 3 cm thick, on a fumed oak drum. Travertine, warm and matte, filled, honed and sealed for the dining table. Dark quartzite, deep charcoal with long white veins — one of the hardest natural stones, resistant to scratches, heat and acidic stains, and ideal for daily use. A concealed steel plate carries the stone so that it never overhangs its support by more than 25 cm.

Made to order in our workshop. Other dimensions and finishes — including a stone top at Ø 180 cm, ebonized oak or rare bog oak — can be studied on request for residential and contract projects. Trade and project quotations available.

A round pedestal dining table for 4, 6 or 8, in fumed oak, natural oak or walnut, or with a travertine or quartzite top, suited to Parisian apartments, contemporary dining rooms and design-led interiors.
